Blue is rarely just blue, and this rug proves it. The Tapison Home Torino 063.0934.5241 layers denim, slate and deep ink with soft sage green, then scatters ochre yellow across the surface like lichen on rock or sunlight on water.

What looks like a watercolour from a distance turns out to have real depth. The colour fields are outlined by fine lines cut into the pile, so the surface rises and falls slightly under your hand. The pile is low and dense, with a gentle sheen that makes the blues look lighter or darker depending on where you stand.

A blue rug with this much variation is a good partner for natural materials. Lay it on a light oak or whitewashed floor, next to a sand or off-white sofa, and let the ochre flecks pick up brass lamps or mustard cushions. Dark wood and cognac leather work just as well and make the blue feel richer.

The Torino is machine woven in Belgium from polyester, with a dark blue finished edge. It is colourfast, suitable for underfloor heating and simple to maintain. Vacuum it regularly, blot any spill at once with a damp cloth rather than rubbing, and rotate the rug from time to time for even wear.
