Few rugs wear orange as easily as Loom Pumpkin. Pumpkin orange and coral are mixed with olive green and cream, so the colour reads warm and earthy rather than loud. Every strand is thick felted wool, some longer and some shorter, which gives the high pile a pebbled look and a soft, springy feel.

Think of it alongside walnut or bent plywood furniture, coloured glass and warm white walls, a nod to the seventies that still looks modern. On an oak floor it anchors the seating area and makes the room feel more welcoming at once. In a bedroom, combine it with linen in sand or olive for a relaxed, autumnal mood all year round.

Loom Pumpkin comes from the Netherlands, where Brink & Campman weaves it on an axminster loom. The material is 100% pure new wool in a felted yarn, on a jute and cotton backing, with a high pile of roughly 45 mm in mixed heights. You can lay it over underfloor heating. Pure new wool is naturally resilient, so the pile recovers well. Keep the rotating brush off your vacuum cleaner, use a smooth nozzle, and give the rug a shake when the pile needs a lift.
