Element Lane Red is built from three rounded, bean like shapes that overlap as if they had been cut from paper and laid on top of each other. A dusty rose forms the widest part, a mauve brown sits in the middle and a deep aubergine closes the outline on one side. There is not a single straight edge or corner. The cut wool pile is dense and velvety, and it shows a soft shading wherever a hand or foot has passed.

A freeform rug like this works best where it has room to be seen. Lay it on polished concrete or light oak and let one armchair or a side table stand half on it, rather than hiding it under a large sofa. Warm wood, terracotta and coral accents pick up the rose tones nicely. In a living room it softens a strict, architectural space, in a bedroom it brings warmth beside the bed, and under a small round dining table it reads as a gentle island.

Brink & Campman has this rug hand tufted in India from 100% pure new wool, with a cut pile of 14 mm and a backing of cotton and latex. Because the outline is organic, the stated size is measured at the widest and longest point. It is suitable for underfloor heating and can be made to measure on request. New wool sheds some loose fibres in the first weeks, which is normal. Use a smooth nozzle without rotating brush and blot spills at once with a clean dry cloth, never rub.
