Imagine three leaves that have drifted onto the floor and landed half over each other. Element Lane Green takes that idea and renders it in wool: a broad field of olive green, a rounded shape in ochre yellow resting on top, and a sliver of pale cream along the outer curve. The colours are mellow and slightly sun faded, more garden in late summer than fresh spring lawn. The pile is cut short enough to keep the contours crisp and long enough to feel plush.

Green and ochre love natural materials, so think of honey coloured wood, cane, linen and chrome tube furniture with dark leather. On a grey screed or concrete floor the rug brings in the warmth such a floor lacks. Its irregular outline makes it a good choice for a reading corner, a spot by the window or a hallway that opens into the living room, places where a rectangle would feel stiff. In a bedroom it adds colour without making the room restless.

Each piece is hand tufted in India from 100% pure new wool. The cut pile measures 14 mm and the back is finished in cotton and latex. As the rug is not rectangular, its size is given as the greatest width by the greatest length. You can lay it on underfloor heating, and Brink & Campman can also produce this design to measure on request. Expect a little fluff in the early weeks, then simply vacuum regularly with a smooth nozzle, brush switched off, and dab any spill immediately with a dry, clean cloth instead of rubbing.
