Against concrete, white plaster and black steel, Escape Kelim Stone shows what a grey wool kilim can do: add texture without adding noise. Its cool stone grey is the natural colour of undyed wool, plain and pure, with a contrasting band across both short ends and no fringes to blur the outline. In raking light the flat weave reveals a fine, crisp grain.

Lovers of minimal interiors will recognise its calm at once. Lay it in a loft with large windows, under a glass or travertine dining table, or in a home office with a desk in dark wood. Steel framed chairs, a charcoal wool throw and a single sculptural lamp complete the picture. In the hall, the runner of 90 x 250 cm carries the same clean line onwards from the front door.

Made in India, Escape Kelim is a handwoven flatweave in 100% undyed natural New Zealand wool, designed by Space Copenhagen for Massimo Copenhagen. Its low, tight structure makes it suitable for underfloor heating. As with any handwoven rug, slight deviations in size and tint are to be expected. Vacuum it without a rotating brush, dab spills quickly with a clean cloth, and allow for some fluff in the first weeks.
