Columns Natural is a handwoven rug in wool and cotton, built up from vertical columns in brown, taupe and dark grey on a raw, natural base. Lorena Canals took her cue from Otti Berger, textile artist of the Bauhaus, and it shows: a crisp, almost architectural rhythm, softened by a richly textured weave and fringes on the short ends.

Its calm, earthy palette sits easily with oak, linen and black steel. Lay it under a low coffee table in front of a light sofa, or give a bedroom warmth and structure. 140 x 200 cm suits a bedside or reading corner, 170 x 240 cm and 200 x 300 cm the living room, and 250 x 350 cm and 300 x 400 cm a large seating area or dining table.

Woven by hand on a handloom in India from 80% wool and 20% cotton, about 1.5 cm thick (1 cm in 250 x 350 and 300 x 400 cm). Every piece is finished by hand to create the characteristic double layer effect, and handwork means small variations in size and shade. Suitable for underfloor heating. Do not wash the rug: vacuum regularly without a beater bar or rotating brush, blot spills straight away with a dry white cloth, and trim any loose yarn with scissors rather than pulling it. For a deep clean, professional cleaning is recommended.
