Cord Blue Brown is a deep chocolate brown wool rug with thin cobalt blue lines that only reveal themselves up close. The chunky handwoven texture gives the dark ground real depth, and the loose fringes at both short ends keep it relaxed. It is one of four colourways in the Cord collection Layered created with the Swedish design studio Massproductions.
Brown and blue is a grown up pairing: warm, quiet and a little unexpected. It grounds a white room with a sculptural wooden chair, or adds depth beneath a leather sofa and a walnut sideboard. The 75 x 240 cm runner brings the same warmth to a hallway, while 250 x 350 cm anchors a generous seating area.
Woven by hand in Bhadohi, India, from 100% wool, about 15 mm high, and suitable for underfloor heating. Handwork means small variations in size and tone. New wool sheds a little at first, which fades over time. Vacuum without a brush and treat stains with lukewarm water and a little soap, then absorb the moisture with a dry microfibre cloth. For a deep clean, choose professional flat washing.
