Kaleidoscope reimagines a key painting from the period when Heather Chontos began working on antique linen and found fabrics. It is the most exuberant design of the collection: pink, tangerine, poppy red, sunflower yellow and cobalt tumble across an off white ground, outlined in chocolate brown, like a joyful still life seen through coloured glass.

A rug like this sets the tone for the whole room, so keep the rest calm and natural. Pair it with weathered wood, rattan, leather and plenty of plants, or let it lift a white room with a simple dining table and mismatched chairs. 250 x 350 cm gives the design room to shine in a living room, 300 x 400 cm makes it the centrepiece of a large open space.

Hand knotted in Bhadohi, India, from 100% New Zealand wool, with a generous pile of about 25 mm, and suitable for underfloor heating. Advanced dyeing techniques recreate the depth and colour variation of the original paintings. Handwork means small variations in size and tone. New wool sheds a little at first, which fades over time. Vacuum without a brush and treat stains with lukewarm water and a little soap, then absorb the moisture with a dry microfibre cloth. For a deep clean, choose professional flat washing.
