Senso Border Soft Taupe is the kind of rug you appreciate more the longer you look. At first glance it is a plain surface in cool grey taupe, a greige flecked with lighter fibres. Then the three frames emerge: concentric rectangles, set one within the other and marked by a slender raised line in the same shade. The pattern is felt as much as seen. The weave itself is flat and tight, with a fine grain.

We like this rug best under a dining table. The frames follow the outline of a rectangular table and are just as elegant around a round one in travertine or pale oak, where the contrast of circle and rectangle adds tension. Because the rug is so thin, chairs slide back without catching. Woven cane seats, chrome legs and a tall ceramic vase complete a look that is modern, natural and understated.

A good underlay belongs with this rug. It is woven without backing, so on tiles or parquet a non slip underlay keeps it flat and in place, which matters under moving chairs. The rug itself is 100% pure new wool, flatwoven by hand in India and about 6 mm thin. It is suitable for underfloor heating. Loose fibres in the first weeks are normal for new wool and disappear with vacuuming. Blot spills straight away and do not rub.
