William Morris drew Borage in 1883 as a furnishing fabric, and its small flowers still turn across the surface with the same quiet energy. In Morris & Co Borage Blue they are knotted in ivory, caramel and copper brown on a ground of deep indigo, framed by a wide border where pale tulips and scrolling stems stand out against the dark.
This is a rug for rooms with some history, or rooms that could use a little. Lay it on bare boards under an old farmhouse table, or in front of a sofa in bouclé and dark oak. The indigo reads almost black in the evening and turns clearly blue in daylight, so the rug changes with the hours.
Each piece is hand knotted in Nepal in 100% pure new wool on a cotton foundation, with a dense pile of 12 mm that is firm and smooth to walk on. Knotting a rug like this is slow, patient work, and small differences in size and shade are the mark of the hand that made it. It is suitable for underfloor heating. Vacuum regularly without a rotating brush and blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth.
These hand knotted rugs are available in very limited numbers. Contact us before you order and we will confirm availability and the delivery date for your size.
