Barley Bone White shows how refined jute can be. Pale jute and soft white wool are woven into a small, tight check, so from a distance the rug reads as a calm, light surface, and up close you see the play of two fibres and the depth of a 14 mm pile. The name comes from the grain, and from the golden glint of the jute threads.

A light jute rug brings texture without weight. Lay it under a dark wooden dining table with simple chairs, beside a fireplace, or in a bedroom with linen and old oak. 200 x 300 cm suits a table for six, 140 x 200 cm fits beside a bed, and the 75 x 240 cm runner adds warmth to a hallway or a kitchen.

Handwoven in Bhadohi, India, using the traditional punja technique, in which the yarn is packed tightly with a heavy comb. 70% jute and 30% wool on a cotton warp, with a pile of about 14 mm. Handwork means small variations in size and tone. Vacuum often, and shake out and air the rug now and then to keep it at its best. Avoid washing it: plant fibres such as jute are sensitive to moisture, so blot spills straight away with a dry cloth.

You can see and feel our rugs in our rug shop and showroom in Willebroek, in the Antwerp region, easily accessible from Antwerp, Brussels, Mechelen and Sint-Niklaas. Delivery is free across Europe and you have 30 days to return.
