Three rectangles, stacked one above the other, and that is all the pattern Senso Blocks Natural needs. They are outlined in a fine raised line and their sides lean slightly, as though someone sketched them freehand. The ground is a soft sand beige with an oatmeal fleck, and the line is woven in the same shade, so you read the design through relief instead of colour. The flat weave feels dry and firm underfoot, with the gentle grain of real wool.

Because it is so thin, this rug is at its best under a dining table. Chairs pull out smoothly and stand steady. Combine it with a table in light oak, chairs with a woven seat or linen cushions, and a generous pendant lamp above. Daylight from the side brings out the three blocks, while by candlelight they fade into one calm beige surface. Allow at least 60 cm of rug beyond the table edge on every side, so the chairs stay on it when pulled back.

Each Senso Blocks is woven flat by hand in India, in 100% pure new wool, for the Dutch rug maker Brink & Campman. It measures roughly 6 mm in thickness and is safe to use on underfloor heating. As there is no backing, a non slip underlay keeps it in place on wood, tiles or vinyl. Pure new wool hides everyday soil naturally. Vacuum without a rotating brush and blot spilled drinks immediately with a dry cloth.
