Mellow Berber 06 takes the drawn, slightly wandering lines of traditional Atlas Mountain weaving and lets them run freely across a warm ivory ground in soft charcoal, never quite straight, never quite symmetrical, exactly as the original hand woven pieces they are drawn from.

The pile is where this rug earns its name. Deep, dense and generously soft, it sinks under bare feet and springs back slowly, the sort of surface that makes people take their shoes off without being asked. The ivory is not a cold white but a creamy, oatmeal toned neutral that shifts with the light through the day, warmer in the morning, quieter at dusk. Against it the charcoal reads almost hand drawn, blurred at the edges by the length of the pile.

Hand knotted tassels finish the short ends, a detail that keeps the piece firmly in the Berber tradition rather than tipping into plain modern shag. It is the reason this rug sits so easily in interiors that mix eras. Put it under a low linen sofa, alongside pale oak and rattan, or in a bedroom where the first thing you want in the morning is something soft underfoot.

Care is simple. Vacuum without a rotating brush head, ideally with a suction only setting, so the long fibres stay intact. Shake out or air the rug now and then. Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth and lukewarm water, working from the outside inwards, and let it dry naturally. New high pile rugs shed slightly during the first weeks, which settles with regular vacuuming.
