There is a particular kind of blue that only happens on a loom, never on a screen. The border of Kilim Sapphire 915 is exactly that blue.

It wraps the rug like a frame around a painting, holding in a field of diamonds woven in rust, ochre, teal and black against soft cream. Walk the length of it and the pattern seems to repeat itself, but look closer and every diamond carries its own small variation, a flicker of colour that the weaver chose in that exact moment and nowhere else. That is the nature of a kelim. Nothing about it was ever meant to be identical twice.

The wool itself tells part of the story. Spun, dyed and woven entirely by hand in Afghanistan, Kilim Sapphire 915 carries no pile to crush or shed, just a flat, tightly packed weave where the colour goes all the way through. Run a hand across the surface and you feel the structure rather than a softness laid on top. That is what makes a kilim last, and what makes it travel so easily from one room to the next.

This particular piece, true to its 244 by 84 centimetre runner shape, was made for the in-between spaces. A long entrance hall, the stretch beside a kitchen island, a landing that has never quite known what to do with itself. Wherever it lands, that sapphire border tends to be the first thing anyone notices.

Shake it out from time to time, vacuum gently without the beater bar, and let it air outdoors every now and then. Spills lift quickly if you catch them early, and the rug should always be left to dry flat.
