Theodosia comes from the embroidered bed hangings at Kelmscott Manor, where a hand painted trail of scrolling leaves and stylised flower heads winds in the Jacobean manner. Morris & Co Theodosia Bottle Green lays that trail over a deep green ground, with blossoms outlined in ivory and filled with caramel, copper and a touch of soft blue.

Bottle green is a generous colour. It makes brown leather glow, it calms a marble fireplace, and it carries blue and green cushions without effort. Because the flowers are scattered evenly, the rug works from every side, which is useful in a sitting room where furniture stands all around it.

Every Theodosia is knotted by hand in Nepal from 100% pure new wool on a cotton foundation, to a pile height of 12 mm. Wool takes dye deeply, and in a hand knotted piece the green shows gentle shifts in tone that give the ground its life. Sizes can vary slightly as well. The rug is suited to underfloor heating. Use a vacuum without a beater bar, and press a dry cloth onto spills instead of rubbing.

These hand knotted rugs are available in very limited numbers. Contact us before you order and we will confirm availability and the delivery date for your size.
