Bardsey Green shares its name with the small island off the tip of the Llŷn peninsula. Lattice motifs in cream and tiny squares of chocolate are woven into a soft moss green ground, with a single fine red line running through, just like on an old Welsh tapestry blanket.

The pattern feels both graphic and homely. It looks wonderful with tan leather, warm timber and stone walls, and holds its own in a large living room. 300 x 400 cm creates one generous zone around a sofa and coffee table, 200 x 300 cm suits a smaller living room, and the runner fits a hallway.

Ryg belongs to CLOTH, the collection Layered created with London interior architect Tom Morris, founder of Morrisstudio. The pattern is drawn from the traditional Welsh blankets of his family background, with colours taken from the coast of North Wales.

Handwoven on a pit loom in Bhadohi, India, where the weaver works the treadles below floor level. The result is a dense, flat weave in wool of about 6 mm that lies low and calm on the floor and suits underfloor heating. Handwork means small variations in size and tone. New wool sheds a little at first, which fades over time. Vacuum without a brush and treat stains with lukewarm water and a little soap, then absorb the moisture with a dry microfibre cloth. For a deep clean, choose professional flat washing.
