Harlequin Atelier Lagoon began with a vintage scarf from the 1970s. Its sweeping arcs, half moons and zigzag bands are redrawn here at room scale, in bottle green, sea green, sky blue and olive with touches of sand and ivory.
The effect is graphic and a little glamorous. Small areas of the pattern catch the light with a soft sheen, so the surface shifts as you walk past. A cognac leather sofa, dark timber and a view of the garden are all the company it needs, and the rest of the room can stay plain.
Atelier is hand tufted in India from 93% pure new wool and 7% viscose, with a 17 mm pile and a cotton and latex backing. It can lie on underfloor heating, and made to measure is possible. Handwork brings slight variations in size and colour. Vacuum with a smooth nozzle, and treat spills with a dry cloth only, pressing gently, since the shiny details dislike moisture.
