Run a hand across Sober Soft Brown and you feel every single stitch of the weave. Thick wool yarn forms rows of small rounded loops, a little like pebbles laid side by side. The colour is a soft brown mélange that moves between camel, taupe and a warmer chestnut, lifted by lighter cream threads that appear and fade across the width. Nothing here is printed or dyed flat. The tone shifts gently from one row to the next, which gives this rectangular rug its quiet depth.

Brown has returned to the interior, and this is a relaxed way to bring it in. The rug sits beautifully on a pale poured floor, on light oak or on natural stone, next to a low sofa in ecru or sand and wood panelling in a honey tone. It suits a modern home as well as a country house with linen, leather and aged timber. Choose a size generous enough for the front legs of the sofa and armchairs to rest on it, so the seating group reads as one.

Sober Soft Brown is handwoven in Hungary from 100% pure new wool and is about 12 mm thick. The rug has no backing, so on a smooth floor such as tiles, parquet or laminate we advise a non slip underlay to keep it firmly in place. It can be used on underfloor heating. Some loose wool fibres in the first weeks are part of a new woven rug and vanish with vacuuming. Use a smooth nozzle, and dab any spill immediately with a dry, clean cloth instead of rubbing.
