Collection: Round Rugs
Soft shapes in wool, designer and natural textures.
Most rooms are built from straight lines. Walls, floorboards and furniture legs all run at right angles. A round rug lands in the middle of that geometry and quietly does the opposite. It softens, it curves, it draws the eye inward rather than directing it outward. In a space dominated by angles, a circle is a small act of relief.
What the round shape brings to a room
A rectangular rug defines a zone. A round rug creates a moment. The difference is subtle but real: a circle doesn't assert itself the way a rectangle does. It nestles rather than divides, which makes it surprisingly versatile. Under a round coffee table it feels obvious and harmonious. Under a square or rectangular table it feels unexpected, a deliberate choice that makes the whole arrangement more interesting. In a hallway or bedroom corner it works as a soft accent, a calm landing for the eye in a space that otherwise runs entirely to straight lines.
Finding the right diameter
Round rugs follow the same principle as rectangular ones: go bigger than you think. The most common sizing mistake is choosing a diameter that's too small for the context.
For a round dining table, the rug should extend at least 60 to 70 cm beyond the edge of the table on all sides, so chairs remain on the rug when pulled out. As a living room accent, whether under a coffee table or in a reading corner, a diameter of 160 to 200 cm is where round rugs find their proportional balance. A smaller rug reads as an accent piece. A larger one begins to anchor a seating area with real presence and weight.
Many collections can be ordered in custom diameters, smaller or larger than the standard sizes shown online. If you need a specific measurement, simply ask.
The rooms where round rugs feel most at home
Round rugs work in every room, but they have particular logic in specific contexts.
In the living room, a round rug under a circular coffee table creates a composed, symmetrical anchor. In a square room it works especially well: the circle's geometry responds to the equal proportions of the space and softens what would otherwise feel rigid. Placed in a larger open-plan area, a round rug defines a zone without drawing hard edges around it.
For the dining room, matching a round rug to a round table is one of the quieter pleasures of interior design. The geometry speaks to itself, and the result looks deliberately composed without visible effort. For a rectangular dining table, a round rug under it creates a subtle contrast that adds personality to the space without disrupting it.
In the bedroom, a round rug at the foot of the bed or tucked into a reading corner adds warmth without competing with the dominant lines of the bed frame. In an entryway, a round rug signals welcome rather than direction, different in character from a runner and often more inviting as a first impression.
Style, material and what you'll find here
Our round rug collection spans a wide range of styles and qualities. At the design end, Louis de Poortere offers several circular collections, including the Berber series, the Mad Men Griff round and the Craft Ribbon, with the colour depth and finish detail that sets them apart from volume production. Orla Kiely, Sanderson and Mart Visser each bring round formats with a clear design point of view for those who want a shaped accent that also says something.
For material, wool remains the first choice in most living spaces: soft underfoot, naturally resistant to staining, and one of the few materials that holds its shape in round format over years of use. Cotton and natural blends offer a lighter, more relaxed feel and wash more easily, a practical consideration for round rugs in kitchens, children's rooms or high-traffic hallways.
