Its colour is a cool taupe leaning towards grey, a true greige, lightly heathered with paler fibres. Three horizontal rectangles lie one above the other along the length, drawn in a narrow ridge of the same wool. Their edges are deliberately a little off square, which gives the strict geometry a human hand. Run your palm over it and you feel each line rise from the flat weave.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePlace it in a minimalist living room, in front of a low sofa in grey or stone coloured fabric, with a coffee table in brushed steel, glass or pale travertine. The rug is a fine base for layering textiles: a chunky wool throw over the arm of the sofa, linen cushions, perhaps a bouclé pouf. All those textures sit well together because the floor stays calm. It also works on concrete and large tiles, where its matt wool takes the hardness out of the room.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFlat woven by hand in India, entirely from pure new wool, with a height of about 6 mm. No backing has been added, which keeps the rug supple but means it needs a non slip underlay on a smooth floor. Doors open over it easily and it copes well with underfloor heating. In the first weeks some loose fibres may come off, as with every new wool rug.
