Round Rugs
Contrast with sleek

In most homes, almost all lines and furniture are straight and angular. A round carpet brings variety and contrast - whether in an oblong or square room. Because a round carpet does not dominate or demarcate a room, it creates a better balance. If you like symmetry, place a round rug under a round table. For a more playful look, combine a round rug with a square or rectangular table.

As long as you create a cohesive space, you'll choose rugs that complement your other decor. Round rugs are available in a wide range of colors, so you don't have to worry about finding an old rug.

Round Rugs: Where Do They Look Best?

The best place for round rugs is in spaces where they are allowed to show off their shape. Despite their lack of sharp, rigid corners, round rugs tend to emit a softer tone, so showing off their shape makes a big difference to a room's tone. Round rugs are frequently used in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and entryways. These guidelines will help you decide where to place your round rug.

Living Room.

Your main seating area can be covered in a large round area rug that overlaps with the front portion of your seats, or you can have the furniture ground completely on it. A round rug can also be used for reading or morning coffee in a smaller sitting area of the living room.

Dining Room.

To create a balanced look and to be thematically consistent, it's best to place a round table on top of your round rug.

Bedroom.

You can place a round rug underneath the bed, next to it, or use it to create a small sitting area similar to the living room. In boho bedrooms, you can even layer round rugs to create a spunky, eclectic atmosphere.

Kitchen.

Round rugs in the kitchen look best when they're placed in the center of the room or workspace, but be careful not to place them right against the cabinets or walls.

Bathroom.

If your bathroom is larger, you can also use a smaller rug near the shower or tub to create a space similar to the kitchen.

Entryway.

Make sure you line up a round rug with a lighting fixture, a table, or some other decor so that it doesn't look like it's floating in the middle of the room.

Outdoors.

It is not uncommon to see round area rugs used for outdoor dining or seating areas. To get layout ideas, look back at similar indoor spaces.

Do Round Tables Need A Round Rug Underneath?

Choosing a round rug for the entryway is a great idea! You'll likely want one that's slightly larger than the table. Make sure you leave at least  60cm  of extra rug on each side when setting a rug under a dining room table so that chairs have enough room. For round tables in the dining room, 240 cm rugs are a great option, but be sure to check your specific measurements to determine which size rug is right for you.

Round Rugs FAQs

Round rugs: why do we need them?

Using round rugs can help make a room appear more spacious as the eye follows the rug in a fluid motion.

Is it possible to place a rectangular table on a round rug?

You should make sure the rug is larger than the dining table so the chairs can be pulled back without slipping.
