We are proud to present the latest collection from Layered on onlinetapijten.be: La Palette 1931/1959. This special series of four handmade woollen carpets is an ode to the iconic colour theories of architect and designer Le Corbusier, one of the founders of modernism. His vision on the use of colour – summarised in the world-famous ‘Architectural Polychromy’ – forms the basis for this collection.
In 1931 and 1959, Le Corbusier developed a carefully composed colour palette of 63 shades. These colours were not chosen simply for aesthetic reasons: they were designed to evoke specific spatial and emotional effects. Le Corbusier considered colour to be an essential part of architecture – a powerful tool for balancing spaces or creating areas of tension.
With La Palette 1931/1959, Layered brings this philosophy to life in the form of a rug – a combination of colour, texture and craftsmanship that honours the past while feeling surprisingly modern.
A rich, dark shade of blue that radiates calm and depth. Blue Foncé is ideal for those who want to evoke a sober yet luxurious atmosphere in a room. This colour works particularly well in lighter interiors as a powerful accent or in dark rooms to create a cocoon of serenity.
‘Colour should serve, not dominate,’ said Le Corbusier. Blue Foncé perfectly follows that idea: subtle, yet impressive.
Ruby Red is an intense, warm colour that appears powerful and elegant at the same time. Inspired by the red hues from Le Corbusier's later colour palettes, this colour evokes a feeling of energy, passion and even security. Perfect for spaces that are allowed to stand out – think of a statement piece in the living room or a creative workplace.
In a modern interior, Ruby Red brings just the right amount of excitement.
Blue Clair is a soft, light blue shade that brings freshness and lightness to any room. This colour is ideal for those looking for a calming base in, for example, a bedroom, children's room or Scandinavian-inspired interior. The softness of this shade makes the carpet versatile, timeless and surprisingly modern.
Blue Clair allows the room to breathe without feeling cool.
Red Ochre refers to the natural pigments that Le Corbusier loved so much. This warm, earthy reddish-brown shade feels both grounded and chic. Red Ochre creates a feeling of comfort and stability and combines beautifully with natural materials such as wood, linen and ceramics.
A colour that invites slowness, depth and warmth into your interior.
What makes this collection extra special is the location where it was photographed: the Pavillon Le Corbusier in Zurich. This last building designed by Le Corbusier forms the perfect backdrop for the La Palette collection. This is where his architectural forms, colour theories and design philosophy come together.
The carpets are hand-woven in high-quality wool, with a tactile texture that radiates luxury without being obtrusive. Each design is available in a limited number, so you can truly bring a unique piece of design into your home.
At onlinetapijten.be, we select collections with a story, and the La Palette 1931/1959 is the ultimate example of this. Be inspired by the power of colour, Le Corbusier's vision and Layered's craftsmanship.
