You probably know that a rug is the perfect mood creator and can help make your interior a pleasant one. But if you want to buy a new rug, it is useful to know: how big should it be? We will gladly help you decide.
First of all, there are no rules for the size of your carpet. However, there are things you could take into account when determining the right size, yet it remains a matter of taste and preference!
A useful rule of thumb in somewhat larger rooms is to place the front legs of the various pieces of furniture on the carpet. This way, your carpet will connect all the furniture and create peace, atmosphere and a beautiful whole in your living room.
Before proceeding with a purchase, measure your sofa. Add about 30 centimetres to this. This way, make sure your carpet is about 15 centimetres below and to the side of the sofa.
Two-seater sofa 200 x 140 cm or 230 x 170 cm
Three-seater sofa 230 x 170 cm or 300 x 200 cm
If you have a smaller room, you could choose not to place the front legs on the carpet and leave 15 to 20 centimetres between the sofa and the carpet. The whole thing will then look a lot more spacious. If you choose a large rug, your room will seem smaller as the rug will dominate.
A rug under the dining table is great fun and if you choose one of our outdoor rugs, for example, it is also very easy to clean. Read more tips about cleaning your rug here. For the dining room, it is advisable to choose a rug that fits both the dining table and the chairs. Make sure the rug extends at least 70 centimetres around the dining table, so that the chair legs stay on the rug when moving.
Extra atmosphere and warmth in the bedroom? Then place a carpet by your bed. Make sure the carpet sticks out enough on both sides. If you put the carpet about one third under the bed, your bed looks a lot more spacious. Or how about a small (round) rug next to your bed or at the foot of the bed? Warm feet when you get out of bed and it looks incredibly cosy. The hotel feeling in your own home.
